FRIENDS OF SAUDI ARABIA IS BREAKING NEW GROUNDS IN US
From HABIB SHAIKH * Khaleej Times Online - JULY 27, 2008
“LIKE father like son.” That is a well-known saying. Here we recount a case of “like grandfather like grandson”. The friendship of the 32nd President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) with Saudi Arabia is almost a legend, and the US-Saudi relations and cooperation have generally gone from strength to strength.
Advancing these further is FDR’s grandson, Delano Roosevelt, who is a senior adviser to the Jeddah-based technology and energy think tank Xenel Industries Ltd.
According to information made available to Khaleej Times, Delano visited Atlanta, Georgia, on July 16 to raise funds for the Roosevelt Warm Springs Rehabilitation Institute, located near the Little White House in Warm Springs, where Franklin Roosevelt went for relief in his battle with polio.

BY EBTIHAL MUBARAK * Arab News - JEDDAH, JULY 8, 2008
Police have ruled out any criminal involvement in the death of a 21-year-old Saudi woman who died when the car she was driving overturned at high speed in Riyadh on Saturday night. Maj. Sami Al-Showeyrikh, spokesman for Riyadh police, said the accident was caused by reckless driving. The accident took place around 12:30 a.m. The woman died on the way to King Abdul Aziz Medical City, he told Arab News. He also denied rumors that police had detained a man for causing the crash by harassing the woman. That is not true; no one has been arrested or accused of causing the accident, he said.

Marrying a non-Saudi man
BY MAHA AKEEL * Arab News - JULY 7, 2008
After more than 18 months of running around from one government office to another to get the permit, a Saudi friend of mine finally married her non-Saudi fiancé. Before a Saudi man or woman can marry a non-Saudi, they need a permit from the Ministry of Interior for the marriage contract to be officially recognized. The process of filing the form and explaining why the Saudi man is marrying a non-Saudi woman is cumbersome. For the Saudi woman it is difficult and rules are apparently meant to dissuade them from such an alliance.
